// Making Duke Accessible for Undocumented Students

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\                                                 ////////////////

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
4 Reasons Undocumented Students
Should Receive Equal Aid

01

A Diverse Campus Is A Productive Campus

As Duke’s Strategic Plan says, faculty and students benefit most from consistent interaction with individuals of widely varying backgrounds.  Undocumented students have encountered life experiences substantively different than those of students with citizenship documentation. They'll be able to offer new insight to conversation and broaden the horizons of their peers.

02

Attracting The Strongest Applicant Pool

By denying an entire group access to a Duke education, we are inadvertently preventing Duke from acquiring the strongest applicant pool possible. A more inclusive financial aid policy will ensure more applicants, and accordingly, a more competitive selection process, both of which will enhance the caliber of students on Duke’s campus.

03

Duke Must Be A Leader

Though a top university, Duke has not always been consistent in backing efforts that keep pace with the changing times. One such is example is Duke’s historical lag in the admission of Black students fifty years ago. Today, we can instead be a leader by acting as one of the first universities to clearly delineate comprehensive financial aid policy for undocumented students.

04

It’s Not About The Money

Duke doesn't need to admit more students each year and thus increase our school’s financial burden. Instead, Duke should just make financial aid available for undocumented applicants, thus making them equal competitors in the selection process. Also, an arbitrary price cannot be placed upon this kind of policy reform and kindly request that the Financial Aid Office accommodate the needs of a severely underserved population regardless of financial implications.
